Vege Bakeoff

On Wednesday we did a veggie bake-off.  My group made sweet potato brownies and it was really hard to find something that we wanted to make because there were thousands among thousands of ideas. After we looked at some  we finally found the perfect one. On the day my whole group  brought what we needed then we followed the instructions and made this delicious chocolate batter with peanut butter and then we put the batter in a square tin then baked for 20 minutes. The final product  didn't look very appetising but tasted pretty  nice so we came 2nd. The End

Sign Language learning

This is photo is Julie Voss, she taught us a bit of sign language.
She taught us how to introduce our self. She also taught us the alphabet in sign language.
Julie also taught us a bit of history of sign language, did you know that sign language was banned from New Zealand a long time ago. Julie has been teaching a deaf child sign language for 6 years. Ever since Julie was a child she was always interested in sign language so her mum signed her up for sign language lessons.

Dance 2017

This term  were learning how to dance. We learnt lots of different moves hip hop moves like the robot . We tried to even break dance. I enjoyed doing the robot but dance isn't really my thing so I didn't really like dance. The reason I didn't really like dance because it was boring and you had to have everything that the teachers say in your freestyle dance. I also didn't like dance because most of the stuff I couldn't even do. My most favourite dance was the chicken dance. We did a lot of different dances from around the world the first one that we learnt was from Denmark the dance was called seven jumps. . We also did a dance from Germany the dance was called the chicken dance the chicken dance was the one that I liked.  The last dance that we did was called the folk dance. Cotton eye Joe is the third dance that we learnt. Cotton eye Joe is from USA.

Maori language week

My greenstone is on the right when we made it we had to use salt dough. I was mean't to make a fish hook ( Hei matau)but it turned out like V which was perfect because my name starts with a V. 2 days later we painted it green just like a greenstone. When I went to Rm4 we played a maori game called rakau. My buddy was logan he was hitting me everywhere it was kinda fun but my favourite was the greenstone making. When I went to Rm1 we played bingo but I wasn't very good because I don't really know my maori numbers. When I went to Rm2 we played string games I really liked the string games because it was very temping to keep playing with it. Kennedy was very very very good at doing different things with the string. Overall I really liked doing the maori language week because I don't do games from different cultures usually.

2017 Mini Marathon

 Mini Marathon

2017 5th of May Friday it was the day of mini marathon I begged my mum saying can I please not go. In my imagination I thought I wasn't going to find my school and I would be lost. On the way down to the government garden energy event centre.  I got butterfly's in my stomach I really didn't want to go but I had to.
We arrived and I saw my school flag waving in the air I ran to the group of St Mary's. I got my piece of paper and pins to stick into my t-shirt and started to walk around the area with my friends. As I  waited for the race to start we were listening to the music. Suddenly I heard year 5's over here year 5's over hear I quickly went into a line and waited for the race to start. I heard year 5's please go to the starting point. When I was waiting I felt very claustrophobic because there was 2100 children. Me and my friends   decided we was all going to run together. The race began I ran with my friends

Chinese speech competition

This is a photo of me waiting very nervously for my turn to go up and say my speech. Trust me it was very hot inside the heater was on the whole time and  I was dying in the heat.  This girl named Abigayle was first up I could tell by her attitude she was very nervous. About 10 people after Abigayle Mackenzie went up and said her speech I think she was pretty nervous as well.  After all the year 5 and 6's went I was wondering why they didn't call my name then they said after the year 7 and 8's go all the native speakers will go after she said that  my nervousness went away because I got more time to practise.
As I was saying my speech I got very very nervous I could feel the blasting heat from the heater forcing onto my ears. I  didn't really now where to look so I just looked at the middle block and the judges. I was more nervous because I was the last one to go out of everybody and that was the worst feeling because everyone is not nervous because they have already gone a I really nervous. After my speech I felt much better all the nervousness has flushed out of me and I was very happy of how I said my speech.

Kennedy & Vanessa's project

IMG_2081.JPG
I have learnt that making a project out of sustainable materiel makes it very x 5 fragile.
I liked that working with a buddy makes everything 10 times easier then working by your self.
Next time I would try to make something actually work.

Should children have four days of school or five days of school

Should We Have Five Days Of School?

4 days of school shouldn't be enough for for children to get a ton of prior knowledge right?
If we have 5 days of school we have the perfect amount of time to do homework. Also we have enough time to do other things that our parents tell us to do. If we have 3 days to do absolutely anything we like for example go on the i-pad  the whole day its Shirley cant be good for our human eyes right.

I believe that if  we have 2 days to do anything you like the best option is to do your homework and outdoor adventures or outdoor fun.  If we did have four days of school it would be more fun to do other things.

Most children would be out of there minds happy but just imagine how there parents are feeling do think they would be very happy that their children has three days of free time. But parents would probably be constantly be looking for a babysitter or three days of work.

Cross Country

Cross country
26th of May it was Cross Country. I really really didn't want to go because I am horrible at running and very slow. I arrived at the red woods the microphone shouted every 9 year old girl please go stand by Mrs bye. I got up and went to mrs bye and then we walked to the starting line and then Mr  Volshenk said go then me and my friend ran together up a hill. Just over half way I started to jog then made it to the top then ran down this steep hill then went up a tiny ill then it was down hill the whole way.  Then went threw the finish line hooray

Into The woods

Into The Woods

Into the woods is a musical production with lots and lots of music. The show started with three stands representing different fairy tales. The stands were Jack and the beanstalk, The bakers and Cinderella. Cinderella started singing and that’s the moment when I knew this production would have lots of singing. Then Jack started singing then the baker started singing. Then the Baker, Cinderella and Jack shouted into the woods, oh into the woods.

Then everyone started clapping the roof off. Suddenly a witch appeared and said to the baker and his wife to have a child you need to find me a cow white as milk, a cape red as blood, hair yellow as corn and slippers pure of gold.

The baker headed off to the woods looking for these four items but did not let his wife go because it would be too dangerous. The baker found Jack with a cow white as milk and owed him 5 magical beans for the cow he agreed.

The baker found his wife as he was walking back home and said bring the cow back and look after it. He found a girl with a red cape red as blood and tried to snatch the cape but the girl ran away to her grandma's place and then he chased her and got the cape. Then found a girl with yellow hair yellow as corn and cut some off and then found slippers pure as gold,  then it ended. I did not like the story because there was a lot of singing but it was interesting.

Plastic is most of our world

Plastic is most of our world

Why do people just throw plastic into the river that ends up in the sea then ends up in the fishes stomach that ends up to be our dinner that's toxic? That's a huge problem for us and the sea animals cant handle it much longer.

Rubbish gets thrown into the sea by us humans then transforms into little micro beads that are very very toxic which takes a fish to eat it to destroy and go away. 8 million pieces of plastic gets thrown into the sea each year!

Plastic that hasn't turned into micro beads normally strangle animals and some animals think its food like turtles and eats it. People don't do much to try save our animals. Every minute rubbish gets thrown into the sea mostly in China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

People fish for fish and then cooks the fish and doesn't know that the fish could perpetually have toxic micro beads in it then you would probably end up in hospital. In the 19 century's   plastic was invented to save animals but now plastic kills, suffocates and strangle our animals that did no harm to us humans but kills the animals.

The 6'RS are Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Rethink, Refuse and RECYCLE! if you stop using plastic and actually throw away the plastic our animals won't be harmed and possibly carry on using plastic. There is about 5 great big garbage packs around the world. Our turtles thinks the plastic are jelly fish and eats it.

Plastic is low cost, light weight, durability meaning long lasting.
A solution to stop letting people use plastic is to make the price bigger instead of 10c I think  it should be $3.

Camp experienece

Day 1 of camp
When we got to the marae we put our mattresses down and packed what  we needed for white water rafting. We got in in the car and went to the place for white water rafting and. When we got there we put life jackets on and helmets to protect us from if me fall of the boat. My group went first so we pushed the raft in to the river and I fell in to the raft as we were doing that. When I was looking at the rapids of water crashing on rocks loudly I got scared and my stomach had butterfly's and my heart beating faster and faster but I remembered what cowl said and to give everything a go so that's what I did. I started to paddle with my paddle and started to float down the river and went down a hole and got wet.
Day 2 of camp
In the morning I went to go set up the tables for breakfast and we made toast we ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and
ate and ate and ate and ate. After that we played a game and we got put into groups of 6 and went down the steps next to the marae and put life jackets on and walked threw long long long long long long grass that was super itchy. We walked until we reached the bridge and I sat on the tube and I floated and kicked down the river that was cold. After the nice refreshing float we hoped out and got changed.
Day 3 of camp the last day
The last day of camp was very sad I had so much fun but I had to go back to school. I got up and got dressed and went to got have breakfast I ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and ate until I was full. When we finished our amazing breakfast we a lady came with a helper to teach us how to make poi and a fish made out of flacks. First we made a fish and we got some flacks and used scissors to soften the flacks and then we folded it and folded it until we got the shape of a fish. After that we learned how to make poi. first we got some pillow stuffing and rope and a plastic bag. First you need to make the the stuffing look like a ball the use the rope to rape it around the stuffing and then platted the rope with a buddy and after that rape a plastic bag around the the stuffing then tape it then you get a poi.

Maori Myths and Ledgens

The War Between Hercules And Te Puia
It all started when a day wasn't going smoothly and it did not get any better. The sun gave a direct hit with a fireball to Te puia the most loveliest mountain. The fireball left Te puia with no choice but to fight back. Te puia grabbed a giant boulder and threw it with lightning speed to the sun.The sun gave up and ran away with a great big bruise.
Then out of nowhere a little rabbit named hercules came out of a large cave and hid in a bush. Hercules has seen the battle between Te puia and the sun hercules was determined to defeat Te poia and bring back light.

The next day there  was a great big storm and hercules  was looking for a place for shelter without thinking Hercules ran onto Te puia and Te puia felt little feet sprinting on her and looked without blinking at Hercules.

Hercules tried to run he ran and he ran  as fast as he had ever ran before. Te puia grabbed a rock out of nowhere and it was tiny but still threw it to Hercules but hercules grew and grew and grew and grew until he was bigger than Te puia and ended Te puia’s life and Hercules became the king of the mountain.

Hercules let every creature into the mountain including the sea creatures Hercules made a little stream going through the mountain that connects to the sea of tranquillity.
